Made of 3/16″ steel plate, this reinforcement plate, along with the surface ground round spacers and grade 8 hardware, provides an even pressure along the entire bottom half of the timing chain cover on your MGA.

This is designed to fit MGA engines as follows: 1500 from (e)GB259, 1600, and 1622 which use Moss Motors timing chain cover gasket #296-340. It will not fit the earlier 1500 engine.

The thickness of the spacers equals the height of the raised ribs between bolt holes. The spacers are placed on the bolt holes and so the plate then applies equal pressure along its entire length to the ribs and spacers.

NOTE: Some MGA timing chain covers do not have the raised ribs between the bolt holes. The plate will fit into the channel of the non-ribbed covers and work just as well. The spacers mentioned above are not used.

Often the timing chain cover, made of very thin sheet metal, gets distorted when the attaching bolts are over-tightened, creating gaps which leak oil. Solve that problem forever.

The first picture shows a timing cover on the front plate with the five spacers located over the selected holes. The second picture shows the reinforcement plate in place with the spacers underneath. The third picture shows the reinforcement plate with the included grade eight hardware installed but not tightened.
