A new roller release bearing for the clutch system on your 1275 Austin Healey Sprite or MG Midget.
The advantages of the roller bearing over the stock carbon bearing are that friction is reduced, no wear means the clutch action never changes, and greater life.
It is made from all new components. The roller bearing itself is from a modern Japanese car and can run for a hundred thousand miles without any problem. The body is from a new 948 carbon release bearing with the carbon removed. The adapter is machined from 6160 aluminum.
The distance from the back of the mounting pegs to the front of the bearing is the same as a stock 1275 carbon bearing so it will fit a stock setup with no changes made. See pictures.
The assembly is held in the clutch release arm with the old style circular springs as in the stock 948 clutch assembly. The ends of the mounting pegs have small holes for the spring which is then rotated around the finger to lock it in place. If you want to use the later style thin metal clips, you will have to slightly relieve the inside of the fingers as the roller bearing assembly fits snugly in the fingers of the release arm.
I have used this type of roller bearing in my SCCA HP race car for six seasons with no problems at all. The bearing still rolls smoothly with no play in the mechanism. A friend is now using one in his HP/Vintage Sprite racecar.
